Ixora

With a band like Copeland, it's not like waiting for a bus, only for two to come along. You genuinely weren't expecting to hop aboard this journey ever again.

Following a six year split and their broody tales of love, loss and life scattered to the whimsical wind, Copeland just this week announced their return, album in tow. News that fans, including myself, are absolutely reeling over. I remember taking to albums like their 2005 'In Motion' when I was schmoozing over young men, seething over weekly wrong-doings and sallying about the bathroom (it's a corker to do your make-up to, no uppity jigs for your arms to contend with), Copeland were just so timelessly melancholic. So much so, that it feels like new album Ixora will follow this early noughties suit as the band are set to independently release the album in October this year.

So why now? Whilst independent bands are sure to feel the heaviest of the music industry's burdens, I don't think Copeland's return could come at a better time. Not only do they have so supportive a collective that even six years later, pre-order bundles are being snapped up like pop on tarts, but Copeland's sound is so departed and delicate of its chord-playing peers that an independent release seems the most reasonable route. I'm so, so excited about this release and can't wait to hear what October brings. Especially if it ties in with the new He Is Legend release, what a freakin' year that would be.
